Before you begin

emFAST produced a detailed PowerPoint of this installation. It refers to FACSys 4.8 but is still relevant.

Please download and review it before you begin.

The new FACSys DSPI interface provides full support for Brooktrout hardware including T1/E1/PRI devices.

After you install the physical fax board at the fax server, refer to the table below to determine which setup program(s) to run.

Note the following:

For all Brooktrout hardware and software installations, follow the detailed installation instructions included with your Brooktrout product.
Detailed installation and troubleshooting information is also available from the Brooktrout Web site at http://www.brooktrout.com.
After you install and configure the fax device, use the manufacturer's test programs to verify proper configuration.
Troubleshooting Tip for Brooktrout ISA Hardware Only: With Brooktrout ISA Boards only, FACSys will attempt to automatically detect the I/O addresses used by the configured board. If you experience Error 22 when starting the fax hardware driver or the FACSys Fax Device Manager service, you must manually create a faxinit.cfg file that lists the addresses used by the fax hardware. For example, if the board is configured to use address 310, you enter "addr 310" in the file. Place this file in the \winnt\bfax directory. For detailed instructions, refer to the Technical Support Bulletin on the FACSys web site.
Brooktrout TR114 and TruFax Driver information for FACSys (does not apply to TR1034 or TruFax BRI cards (Branch Rate Interface)).  In the DRIVERS\TR114+TruFax there are two folders:  Legacy and PnP
The "Legacy" folder contains the previous version of Brooktrout TR114 driver (4.3) which was distributed with FACSys 4.7SP4a. This driver can be used for  Windows 2000.
The "PnP" diver contains the newest Plug-and-Play driver from Brooktrout 4.3.2.81, (bfax.sys is also included in Windows 2003). This version can be used for Windows 2000 but  must be used for Windows 2003. It supports only PCI cards.
The procedure to install the Legacy driver is the same as in FACSys 4.7 SP4a.  If you want to install the PnP driver, please follow these instructions.
The PnP driver has 2 parts:
- the actual driver for the board (the bfax.sys file, and the associated .inf file which allows Windows to see the board as a plug-and-play device)
- the Brooktrout installer, which copies the files needed by FACSys (firmware, configuration files and Control Panel applet)

For Windows 2000

If you are installing the driver in Windows 2000, when Windows prompts you with the "Found new hardware" dialog, do not disable the board as we used to in previous FACSys versions. Instead, unzip the file CDISV43PnP1.zip and point the wizard to use the included bfax.inf. Now the Brooktrout board will show under Device Manager as enabled and with the correct description.

For Windows 2003

If you are installing the driver in Windows 2003, please skip this step. This part of the driver is already included in Windows 2003 and the board should be detected automatically.
Then run the Brooktrout installer. This will create the \WINNT\Bfax folder with all configuration files and firmware and will install the Brooktrout Control Panel applet.
Then run the Control Panel applet and configure the correct number of channels, and, if you have a digital board, configure the parameters in the Digital tab.

Brooktrout 1034

The FACSys 4.91 Build includes a separate folder for 1034 installation; see the documentation included with this driver.
