Associating FACSys Services with a User Account
FACSys operates using several of its own native services to control the sending and receiving of faxes. Some of the services log onto Windows to perform their tasks and, therefore, require a Windows account to attach to the server and access the required network resources.
After you install the FACSys fax server software, you must associate the FACSys Fax Server service with a Windows user account having the properties listed below.
Additionally, if FACSys users will be attaching document files to their outbound faxes and document rendering will be performed at the fax server (rather than locally at the users' workstations), the FACSys Fax Device Manager service must also be associated with a Windows account having the same rights and properties. (This allows the device manager to programmatically launch native applications like Adobe Acrobat or Office Applications to render attachments at the server).
| • | Note if you are planning to use Archiving to a Network Share the FACSys Fax Server administrator account must be able to login to the Network share (i.e. a Domain user not just a local user). |
On a Windows 2003 or XP system:
NOTES:
| • | DO NOT ASSOCIATE THE FACSys FAX ROUTER SERVICE WITH A WINDOWS ACCOUNT. |
| • | You can associate the FACSys Fax Server service and the FACSys Fax Device Manager service to the same Windows user account. |
| • | The Windows user account with which you associate these services must have administrative rights and privileges within the local fax server system and explicit access to the network resources used by FACSys (e.g. mail post offices, network printer queues…). |
| • | The password of the Windows user account must be defined as "never expires." |
| • | The FACSys Fax Server service and/or FACSys Fax Device Manager service must be granted the "Log On as a Service Right." |
| • | Underscores are invalid characters in usernames attempting to log onto the FACSys fax server service and/or connecting to a NetWare 3.x file server. For example, the username JOHN_SMITH is invalid. |
