Installing/Updating/Upgrading FACSys

Top  Previous  Next

If you are updating your FACSys software from an earlier version, read this section before following the detailed installation instructions.  emFAST has also produced a Power Point for updaters which will assist you.

All users of FACSys 4.9x require new License files for Clients, Channels and Gateways.

Older License DAT files are not compatible with FACSys 4.9x

Contact sales@emfast.com for assistance.

During the installation of the SERVER portion of FACSys 4.9x you will be prompted for the new FACSys 4.9x Server DAT file.  You must have it ready to be selected with the browse tool.  This Server License may not be re-used on another computer anywhere. You must have a UNIQUE license for each FACSys server on your system.

Updating From FACSys 4.7 or 4.8

If you are Updating to FACSys 4.9 from FACSys 4.7 SPx or FACSys 4.8, you must install the latest fax server and FACSys Administrator software.
FACSys 4.9 is a full product install.  It can be used to overwrite a previous version of 4.7 SPx or 4.8
To install FACsys 4.91 you will need to install FACSys 4.9 (the 4.9 Update is included in 4.91).
There have been no issues with connecting earlier versions of the FACSys Desktop client with FACSys Server v4.9x. However, earlier desktop versions may not provide the full 4.9x feature set.  Therefore, re-installing the client software should be undertaken but is not mandatory.

Updating From FACSys 4.6 or Earlier

If you are Updating to FACSys 4.9x from FACSys 4.7 or earlier, a complete product installation is recommended. Note the following general guidelines:

If you are Updating to FACSys 4.8  from FACSys 4.6 or earlier, you must install the new fax server software and the FACSys Administrator software into your existing FACSys directories.
To take advantage of the many new features provided with version 4.91, it is also highly recommended that you install the new FACSys Desktop client software. Note, however, that FACSys 4.1, 4.5x and 4.6 clients can communicate with FACSys 4.91 fax servers.  Functionality with older client software may be limited.
One of the most significant new features since the FACSys 4.7 product release is the support for the fax hardware drivers supplied by device manufacturers such as Intel//Dialogic and Brooktrout (particularly 1034).

If you plan to use a manufacturer's drivers (rather than the proprietary drivers used with FACSys 4.6 and earlier), it is recommended that you first install and configure the manufacturer's hardware and software. Then update your fax server software according to the detailed installation instructions.

Updating From FACSys 4.1  (This upgrade requires a FULL new Product Purchase)

If you are Updating to FACSys 4.91 from FACSys 4.1, you can install FACSys 4.9 fax server software into your existing FACSys 4.1 program directory. If you do so, the existing FACSys user profiles, gateways, device configurations, and fax message queue information will be available from the new 4.91 system automatically. When you open the FACSys Administrator program, the resource folders will be populated with the defined 4.1 objects.
If you are Updating from FACSys 4.1, note that FACSys will verify your FACSys client license. You must have valid FACSys license DAT files that support  the number of FACSys users or channels defined for the fax server. The 4.1 client license disks are NOT compatible with FACSys 4.9x.
When Updating from FACSys 4.1, your CSI route information will not be saved. Note, however, that if you maintain CSI route data in an ASCII text file, you can import the information into your FACSys 4.9x Administrator CSI Routes folder.
To take advantage of the features provided with 4.91, you should update all user profiles, devices, and gateways. (For example, several new permissions and restrictions can be applied to FACSys user profiles. You might want to edit the user profiles and apply broadcast restrictions or force off-peak faxing.)
From the FACSys Desktop, users can import their FACSys 4.1 phonebook data  (but not address groups) and fax cover pages (*.lgo files). Refer to the appropriate chapters in the FACSys Desktop manual for instructions.
