FACSys Fax and Document Printers
Previous  Top  Next

The FACSys Desktop Client and FACSys Services installation programs install and configure a FACSys Printer automatically:
With Windows 2000 or newer and FACSys 5.0:
·    On the FACSys Desktop client, the FACSys Fax Printer is created and configured automatically to output to the FXC: port.
·    On the FACSys fax server, the FACSys Document Printer is created and configured automatically to output to the FXS: port.

The FACSys software uses these printers to render (i.e., output) fax message file attachments into a "faxable" format. This gives users the ability to include file attachments in their outbound fax messages.
Both printers are configured by default to print using a custom FACSys print driver. This raster mini-driver prints at 200x200 dpi and outputs files into a pre-compressed TIF image format. Printing to this print driver results in a faster per page output rate, and the resolution of the resulting faxes will be better than output to PCL or Postscript.

NOTE:
When you change printers or print drivers while editing a document, the formatting and layout of your document may change to accommodate the new driver. Therefore, if a user has created a document using a PCL or Postscript printer, rendering by the FACSys fax driver may change the layout of the faxed pages.

NOTE: OPTIONAL FACSys HPCL RENDERER (additional cost)
You can optionally instruct the FACSys Printers to print using a Windows PCL driver or a Windows Postscript driver. Printing to a PCL or Postscript driver occurs at 300 or 600 dpi, but must then be converted into 200 dpi (for faxing). Therefore, when printing to this type of driver, the OPTIONAL FACSys rendering services are required at the fax server to convert the fax into fax-image format. However, with fax rendering by a PCL or Postscript printer, the layout of the faxed page will be identical to the pages displayed in the users' Windows programs.

FACSys Printer Ports
The printer ports created by FACSys 5.0 on Windows 2000 Server or Windows 2003 Server include the following:
·FXS: This port is created on the fax server when you install the FACSys fax server software.
·FXC: This port is created on the FACSys client workstation when you install the FACSys Desktop client software.
·servername\FXQ: This port is created when you run the SETUP.EXE for the FACSys Queue Monitor to enable print queue monitoring and the processing of embedded codes in a print stream. For details on embedded codes, refer to the documentation provided with the FACSys SDK.
