Adding a Fax Device

Before you perform the following procedure to add a FACSys fax device to your fax server, you must physically install the fax board at the fax server. You must install and configure all boards according to the manufacturers' specifications.  
 
To add a new fax device to FACSys, select the File | New Device command in the FACSys Administrator application. You can also right click on the Devices folder and select the New Device command. The Devices folder for the active fax server is selected, and the New Device dialog box is opened.  
 
If you have not yet added and configured any devices, then all supported fax boards will be listed. If you have already added a fax device to the server, then only the boards in the same device family will be listed.  
 
You cannot have devices from different manufacturers or models installed at the same time.  
 
Select a board from the list and click the OK button.  
 
The device and any subordinate channels or ports are added to the fax server configuration and listed in the FACSys Administrator's Devices folder.  
 
Configuring the Fax Device  
After you have added the device to your fax server, you must define the device properties and settings.  
New fax device(s) default to the off-line state. In order for the FACSys fax server to respond to and manage job requests for the device, you must configure the device and place it on-line. Because the new device is not configured, the CSI column is left blank in the Devices folder.  
 
NOTES:

Many fax boards have multiple channels. FACSys refers to the device that owns the subordinate channels as the "root" device. If you add a fax device that has multiple channels, then the root device and all subordinate channels are added to the Devices folder. You may configure each root and channel device separately

You may select multiple channels and act on them all at once to enable or disable.

You cannot remove a subordinate device; however, you can disable a subordinate device. A board that supports only one channel is identified as a root device that owns a single fax channel.
