FACSys supports canonical dialing. This means that when a FACSys user sends a fax with a canonically formatted fax destination, the fax server analyzes the components of the number against the fax server's local dialing properties. By looking at three separate components of a destination number (country code, city/area code, and local dial number), FACSys can determine whether the destination is a local, long distance, or international call.  
 
Canonical numbers have a plus sign (+) before the dial string. The country code must be placed immediately after the plus sign, followed by exactly one space. If the area/city code is included, that must be followed by exactly one space. For example: +1 (732) 123-4567.  
All "non-canonical" dial strings are translated literally by the FACSys fax server. This means that if a user enters a destination fax number as 1-516-123-4567, the fax server will dial all of those digits. A long distance call will be placed, even if the server is dialing from area code 516.  
 
On the Dialing tab, an Administrator can define the local dialing properties of a Server. (ie local area code, country code, international dialing prefix, and inter-state dialing prefix)
 
Computer Location
 

Area Code - This is the server's local area code (ie 416)

 

International dialing Prefix - This is the server's International dialing prefix (ie 011 for North America, 00 for UK)

 

Country code - This is the country code (ie 1 for North America, 44 for UK)

 

Inter-state dialing prefix -This is the code that needs to be entered when sending a fax from one state/province to another.

 
Dialing Properties
 

To access an outside line, dial _______ for local calls - Some servers need to dial a specific number (ie 9) before dialing a local number. Commas can be used to indicate a pause. This is not the same as Billing codes.

For each call, dial the number ### times before failing - If a server tries to send a fax more than the number of times entered here, a failed notification will be sent to the sender.

 

And wait, ### seconds between each call - Used in conjunction with the above point, the fax server will wait a number of seconds before attempting to resend a fax.

If a partial fax is sent, resume transmission from last page completed - If you enable the 'resume transmission from last page completed' option, FACSys will continue a transmission, rather than re-start it, if the transmission is interrupted for any reason. The last page that was sent successfully will be re-transmitted. The cover page will not be sent again. This feature is critical for organizations that send long fax documents.

 

If another fax is being sent to the same number on a different line, try later. - FACSys is able to detect if a fax is being sent on different channels to the same fax number. If the second fax is placed in a "on hold" status until the first fax is sent, and then it proceeds.

Check the fax inclusion list before sending outbound faxes - Enabling this option "sends" all faxes to be filtered by the inclusion list before being sent.

 

Remote all spaces before matching patterns - Since FACSys users enter fax numbers in many different ways, maintaining an inclusion list can become quite difficult. To assist the FACSys Administrator with this difficulty, the removal of spaces make the inclusion easier to manage.

To accommodate changing area codes and dialing requirements, "routing rules" can be defined for a fax server. These rules automate the process of dial number mapping and correcting destination fax numbers.
