Rendering Options
Previous  Top  Next

FACSys users can attach document files to their outbound faxes. Depending on the way in which you configure FACSys, the document files are rendered either at the fax server or at the user's client workstation, and are rendered either by the FACSys rendering services or by the Outside In™ Viewer technology.

Configuring Client-Based Rendering of Document Attachments
To render file attachments locally at a user's workstation, note the following:
·The user must have a FACSys Fax Printer installed on their workstation. The FACSys Desktop client setup program installs and configures the FACSys Fax Printer automatically.
·The user must enable the 'local rendering' option in their FACSys Desktop.
·The applications in which the document attachments were created must also be installed on the workstation.

Configuring Server-Based Rendering Using FACSys Rendering Services
To instruct FACSys to use the native application(s) to render document attachments at the fax server, note the following:
·You must associate the FACSys Device Manager service with a Windows account that has local administrative privileges.
·Verify that the fax server's FACSys Document Printer is configured to print to the FXS: or FACSYS: port. (The FACSys fax server setup program installs and configures the FACSys Document Printer automatically.)
·Install the applications associated with the document attachments on the fax server. For example, to render Word attachments, you must install Microsoft Word on the fax server. Also, the application versions on the server must be the same as or greater than the versions used by the FACSys clients. For example, you can have Office 98 on the server and Word 6.0 on the client workstations.
·Log onto the fax server with the Windows account that is associated with the FACSys Device Manager service, and open each native application and then close the application. This step is required to satisfy any initial program prompts that may display the first time an application is opened.
·From the FACSys Administrator program, display the server's properties and define the options on the Rendering tab.

Configuring Server-Based Rendering Using Outside In™
FACSys also provides OPTIONAL support for the Outside In™ Viewer technology used for rendering document/file formats at the fax server without requiring the native applications to be installed at the fax server. At Outside-In's core is a filtering technology that understands the file formats of more than 250 current and legacy applications, including the most popular word-processor, spreadsheet, database, bitmap, drawing and presentation formats.

Prior to FACSys 4.91, the Outside In™ Viewer technology was automatically installed with the FACSys server software. To enable the Outside In™ Viewer to render document file attachments at the fax server, you must do the following:
·Obtain a FACSys Outside In™ Rendering Service License to allow the option to be invoked. (There is no cost for this if your system is being upgraded from PRE version 4.91).
·Associate the FACSys Device Manager service with a Windows account that has local administrative privileges.
·Verify that the fax server's FACSys Document Printer is configured to print to the FXS: or FACSYS: port. (The FACSys fax server setup program installs and configures the FACSys Document Printer automatically.)
·From the FACSys Administrator program, display the server's properties and define the options on the Rendering tab.
