Unable to Transmit Faxes If the FACSys fax server is not transmitting or receiving faxes correctly, check the following: • Verify that the fax device is on-line with the correct send and/or receive options checked. To define the properties for a fax device, select the device listed in the Devices folder and click the Properties toolbar button. • Verify that a phone line is connected to every port that is enabled for sending. • Verify that the phone line is enabled for sending. Attaching a simple house-phone to the line and attempt dialing out. • Verify that the device is working. If there is a problem with the fax hardware, check to see that there are no conflicts between the fax device and other devices in the system. This can be done with the Windows Device Manager. Also refer to the "Device Failures and Configuration Notes" listed below. • For troubleshooting purposes, stop and restart the FACSys Device Manager service. To do so, Open the Windows Control Panel and go to Services. Locate the FACSys Device Manager server, right-click it, and choose re-start.
NOTE: You cannot send an empty or 0 byte file.
Error 40 Reported by the Fax Device Manager If Error 40 is reported when sending a fax, the fax device is failing to initialize. This is typically due to an invalid I/O address or IRQ setting. Verify all settings in the device configuration.
Problems with Fax Routing If the FACSys server is not routing faxes correctly, please check the following: • Verify the rights and properties of the Windows user account that is associated with the FACSys Server service. • If the fax server is not routing fax messages to/from a supported email gateway, check that the FACSys gateway configuration settings are correct. Confirm that the option 'Enable this gateway for service' option on the gateway's General property sheet is selected. For instructions on defining a gateway's service options. • If inbound routing to a printer, email application or forwarding is not working, verify that the FACSys user has the correct fax routing options defined in their FACSys user profile. Also verify that inbound routing is enabled in the user's FACSys profile. For instructions on defining a user's inbound routing options.
Device Failures and Configuration Notes Port failures may occur due to any of the following situations:
Verify the device's switch settings by comparing the settings against installation manuals supplied by the hardware manufacturer. Note that multiple ports cannot be set to the same address. Always check that all ports are configured to unique addresses. Rule out port address conflicts by checking with Windows Administrative Services, Diagnostics, IRQ and Port Addresses, or by removing the fax boards, rebooting with DOS and examining the suspect addresses with DEBUG. I/O address areas 0x1XX and 0x2XX are always better areas to use than 0x3XX because of the much lower probability of address conflict. Devices which "share" an IRQ over many ports may benefit from using IRQ7 (only if IRQ7 is not being used by the LPT1 port).
