The Facsys Mail Printer (a tool for Outlook and Lotus Notes users) provides the "print to mail" feature of the Desktop client, without the installation of the client software. The Facsys Mail Printer cannot be installed on a machine that has the Facsys Desktop client software installed.

 

The Facsys Mail Printer satisfies an increased demand for print to mail services with minimal desktop requirements, and provides yet another method for sending fax messages. By printing to the Facsys Mail Printer output device, documents are converted to TIF image format at the client workstation and included in a new mail message that can then be faxed or even sent to another e-mail address.

 

Note: The Facsys Desktop Client can also be configured to invoke the Facsys Mail Printer (see Tools, Options, Sending, Advanced and select Use Electronic mail transport when printing and Use default electronic mail profile).

 

Facsys Mail Printer Requirements

• The Facsys Mail Printer can be installed on Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows 2003 client platforms.
• The Facsys Mail Printer included with Facsys Enterprise communicates via the MAPI protocol and has been fully tested with Outlook clients. Therefore, the appropriate mail gateway must be installed and configured.
• All Facsys Mail Printer users must have a Facsys user profile on the fax server.

 

Installing the Facsys Mail Printer

• An automated setup program installs the core print monitoring services of the Facsys Desktop software without requiring a full client installation.
• At the client workstation, run SETUP.EXE from the Facsys Enterprise Mail Printer download. Follow the installation prompts.
• After installation, Windows must be restarted.
• By default, the Facsys Mail Printer is installed in the following folder on the client: \Program Files\Facsys\Facsys Mail Printer

 

After the setup program has completed, the Facsys Mail Printer will appear as another printer within the user's installed printers.

 

Identical to the Facsys Desktop print services, the printer is configured to output to the FXC: port.

To view the properties of the Facsys Mail Printer, choose the Printers and Faxes command from the Windows Start menu.

 

When Windows has restarted, a Facsys Mail Printer icon will be displayed in the Windows taskbar. This icon indicates that the Facsys print monitoring services are running. By simply printing to this output device, the printed document will be converted to a TIF image and included in a new mail message that can then be faxed or even sent to another e-mail address.
