To define several default options to be applied to the inbound and outbound faxes handled by the fax server, click the Options tab in the Server's Properties dialog box.

Specify the page layout details

  • Server's default cover page - Select the cover page to be used as a default cover page for all faxes sent from this fax server. The cover page titles in this list reflect all shared cover pages on the current server. This cover page will be included with all faxes sent by users that do not have the Select Cover Page access right. NOTE: To help in the creation and design of cover pages, the Cover Page Editor is included in the Facsys Desktop Client Program.

  • Header string - Define the message text to be displayed as the header on every page of every outbound fax sent by this server. You define the header message text using a series of embedded command tokens. You should not leave the fax server's header string blank. NOTE: This is inactive on Intel/Dialogic devices. For more information on defining the header string and using the embedded command syntax, Defining Notification Message and Fax Header Text.

  • Display date and time - The format chosen will affect the Date and Time fields throughout Facsys, including dates and times on the outbound fax header when the corresponding tokens are defined in the header string.

  • Force page to full page length - Choose this option to force the length of all outbound faxes to 11 inches. The size of the fax image is not enlarged or reduced; only the length of the page is affected.

  • Limit send fax broadcasts - To limit the number of destinations that users can define in their outbound faxes, enter the maximum number in this field and assign the "Cannot exceed broadcast restrictions" permission in the users' profiles.

  • Off-peak hours - To define an off-peak transmission time, enter the start and end times in these fields. To force outbound faxes to be sent only during the off-peak hours you define, assign the "Can send during off-peak hours only" restriction in the users' profiles.

  • Receive Image Type - Choose the default image format for all inbound faxes. Facsys will convert all inbound fax files into the format you select here. You must select a format that can be displayed in your users' fax viewer application. The Facsys Fax Viewer can open all of these file types. NOTE: TIFF (Group4) offers the best compression rate. DCX compression results in files approximately 2 times larger than TIFF/G3.

Image Text Options

  • Save ### page(s) of text of Inbound Messages - Faxes are made up of 2 components: images and text. On the Archiving tab, the Facsys Administrator can specify where the image of the fax is stored. In this area, number of pages associated with the text component of the fax can be regulated.  (ie. if you have a 100 page fax, the image will include all 100 pages. The amount of text that one might want to save might be set to 10.)

  • Save ### page(s) of text of Sent Messages - Faxes are made up of 2 components: images and text.

Failover

  • Each server within a server farm can monitor other servers in the farm for failure. Using this option, a list of servers that this server can monitor can be selected. In the case of a failure of one of those servers, the monitoring server will take over responsibility.

Scenario: Alpha, Bravo and Charlie are three servers in a server farm. Alpha monitors Bravo and Charlie, Bravo monitors Alpha and Charlie, Charlie monitors Alpha and Bravo. If Bravo fails, either Alpha or Charlie will take over the sending/receiving of Bravo's faxes.
