Troubleshooting Gateway Issues

If users cannot send or receive fax messages via the gateway, verify the following:

  • Verify the routing options defined in the Facsys user profiles. On the General tab, select the Enable inbound routing option. On the Routing tab, define all Mail Information fields.

  • Make sure the gateway is enabled and online.

  • Make sure the Windows user account that the Facsys Server service is logging in as has administrative rights within the local system. By logging in as this user, the Facsys Server service has the ability to attach to the server to communicate with its e-mail gateways and print queues.

  • Create a fax server information log file and view the log data. To create the log file, enable the following option located on the Logging tab of the fax server Properties dialog box - "Enable output to this server's information log file".  When enabled, the fax server will post its activity information to the Fax Server Log files that are located in the Facsys program directory on the fax server. (C:\Program files\Facsys\Facsys Services\Log files\)

Also note the following:

  • Facsys fax servers have access to an ANSI character translation feature. On the Gateway Properties dialog box under the Options tab, there is an option called Translate all message information to the ANSI character set.  Enabling this option instructs Facsys to translate all messages and fields before sending faxes via the gateway. If there are problems with  international characters or character sets being converted improperly, then enable or disable this option as required by the gateway.

  • Issues with the Facsys Server service, routing, and sending events from a mail gateway are reported in the Event Viewer located at the Facsys server.
