The FACSys Desktop installation program installs and configures the FACSys Fax Printer automatically. However, you can optionally create a FACSys printer manually or change the driver used by the default printer.
The exact procedures for adding or creating a printer depend on your workstation operating system. Some general guidelines are listed below.
| NOTE: | If you are creating a printer on a Windows 95 machine, you may be prompted for your Windows 95 program CD. Please have the CD ready. |
| 1. | Run the Add Printer Wizard from the My Computer group or the Printers applet in Control Panel. |
| 2. | When prompted, select the ‘My Computer’ option to create a local printer. Do not select the network printer options or make this printer a shared printer. |
| 3. | When prompted, configure the printer to print to the FXC or FAXPRINT port. This port should display in your list of Available Ports. |
| NOTE: | If the “FXC” or “FAXPRINT” port is not an available option, the FACSys software installation was not successful and you must re-install the FACSys Desktop. |
| 4. | When prompted, select the HP (Hewlett Packard) manufacturer and the LaserJet 4M Plus printer. This print driver is recommended because FACSys uses its default font set when generating PCL or Postscript files. |
| 5. | When prompted, enter a printer name that identifies the new FACSys printer. For example, you might enter the name “FACSys PrintToFax” or “FACSys Printer.” |
| 6. | When prompted, do not make this a shared printer. |
NOTES:
| • | It is strongly recommended that you configure the installed printer to print at 300 DPI rather than 600 DPI, which is the default resolution of many print drivers in the HP LaserJet series. |
| • | Although not required, it is recommended that the Spool data format be set to RAW, and that bi-directional support for this printer be disabled. Both of these values can be set by choosing the Spool Settings button in the Printer Properties Details property sheet. |
