Sending Faxes with Drag and Drop

The FACSys Desktop program icon shortcut on your Windows desktop serves as a drop point for drag and drop file transfers. When you drop a file onto the FACSys shortcut, the New Fax Message window is displayed and the dropped file is included as an attachment. Define your fax, and click the Send toolbar button.

You can build your fax messages one file at a time or by dragging and dropping multiple files simultaneously. The drag and drop procedures allow you to quickly choose and schedule files for faxing without launching the FACSys Desktop at your workstation.

NOTE:The FACSys Desktop installation procedure can create the shortcut for you. For instructions on creating desktop shortcuts manually, refer to your Windows documentation.

Using the Windows Send To Command

When you right-click on a file listed in Windows Explorer, Windows displays a file object menu. When you choose the Send To|Fax Recipient Using FACSys Desktop command, the New Fax Message window is displayed and the file is included as an attachment. Define your fax, and click the Send toolbar button.

Using a DDE Application

The FACSys Desktop can act as a DDE server for any application that has DDE client capabilities. Developing a DDE command interface between another application and the FACSys Desktop provides a means of building a fax job and scheduling that job for faxing. For example, to programmatically create a list of fax destinations, you might write a macro that accesses information from another database (e.g., an application's address book). After the destination list is created, your macro may include a file to be faxed to the list or you might "print a document to fax" from a word-processor.

Detailed documents regarding the supported DDE commands and syntax are provided with the FACSys Software Development Kit (SDK) and are available from the Technical Support Bulletins area of the FACSys Web site.

Using Embedded Print Codes

Embedded print codes are commands supported by FACSys that permit you to insert special character sequences in your print jobs. The FACSys fax server print services can be configured to monitor a print queue and respond to the embedded codes within your print stream. By doing so, you gain the ability to send faxes without having to use any platform specific applications.
