Defining Default Fax Server Connection Options
Previous  Top  Next

The settings you define on the Server tab of the Options dialog box affect your FACSys logon and the display of the FACSys Logon dialog box.

To display the Options dialog box from the FACSys Desktop, choose the Tools | Options command. If your FACSys Desktop is running as a background process, you can right-click on the FACSys Desktop tray icon on your Windows taskbar and choose the Options command.

On the Server tab of the Options dialog box, define your connection options as follows:

·FACSys Server - Type a server name or select the server you want to define as your "preferred" fax server. This is the default fax server that will handle your inbound and outbound fax messages. If you logon to FACSys using Windows NT authentication, this is the fax server to which you will connect. If you create fax messages without opening the FACSys Desktop, this is the fax server to which your fax messages will be routed.

·Log on using Windows NT password authentication - Select this option to instruct FACSys to authenticate your logon using the account information you already entered to logon to Windows. When authenticated, the FACSys Desktop will display immediately without prompting you to logon.

NOTE:Your FACSys Administrator can also enable NT authentication on a fax server-basis. If enabled, then any authentication option you define here will be overridden.

·Log on using FACSys user profile authentication - Select this option to logon to the fax server using the Name (alias) and Password you enter here. This gives you the ability to maintain separate NT and FACSys logons but still have your FACSys logon authenticated for you automatically.

If you always want FACSys to prompt you to enter your FACSys logon information, select the 'Always prompt' option. When you do not select this option, FACSys will not display its Logon dialog box if you have been authenticated using the Name and Password you entered in the fields above.

·Network Settings - In the Protocol field, select the transport type to be used by the FACSys Desktop client when connecting to the fax server. Note that a Port Number is only required for TCP/IP and is disabled if one of the other transports is selected. When using the TCP/IP protocol, specify 0 as the Port Number.

NOTE:When the FACSys Desktop client uses the TCP/IP protocol to connect to the fax server, the FACSys Network Transport service (NTP.EXE) must be running on the fax server. This service "listens" on port number 2514 for client communications. Entering 0 as the Port Number indicates that the default port number (2514) should be used.
