Troubleshooting: Sending Faxes

Internal Image Conversion Errors

If you are having problems sending faxes that have file attachments, note the following:

·Verify that the file attachment type is supported by your FACSys configuration. Contact your FACSys Administrator for a list of file attachment types supported by your FACSys installation.

·Verify that the FACSys Printer is configured properly at your workstation or fax server. The FACSys Fax Printer on your workstation must be configured to output to the FXC: or FXC: port. The server-based FACSys Document Printer must be configured to output to the server's FXS: or FACSYS: port. This configuration is fully automated during the FACSys Desktop and FACSys server installation.

·An "Error 17 / Invalid Printer" message indicates that the FACSys Printer is not configured properly at your workstation or fax server.

·You cannot attach files with macros or files containing external links. If you attach a file of this type, you may experience the FACSys error "Internal Image Conversion."

·If you attach password-protected files or read-only files, you may be prompted to enter a password during the rendering process. If rendering is configured to occur at the fax server, rendering these types of files may fail.

Troubleshooting Dialing Issues

If your dial strings are being interpreted incorrectly at the fax server, note the following:

·Verify that you are entering the fax address correctly. For information on address syntax.

·Verify that your FACSys Administrator has not created any routing rules for the fax server that may affect/modify your dial strings.

·Try placing the city/area code in parentheses.

·Ask your FACSys Administrator to verify that the fax server's Dialing Configuration has been defined correctly. Also verify the settings defined in the fax server's Control Panel/Telephony applet.

Cover Page Font Issues

If the correct fonts are not displayed in your sent fax, check the following:

·Verify that the FACSys rendering services have access to all required fonts. To install additional fonts for use on fax cover pages rendered at the fax server, use the Windows Control Panel Fonts utility and install the new font files into the server's Windows\Fonts directory.

·If you are "printing to fax," verify that the print driver used by the FACSys Fax Printer is configured to print true type fonts as graphics.
